Title: Harnessing Emerging Technologies to Foster Global Citizenship: Strategies for Deepening Intercultural Competence in Education

Abstract: In an era where global connectivity is reshaping the educational landscape, the ability to foster intercultural competence has become crucial for preparing students to thrive in a diverse world. This keynote speech, titled “Harnessing Emerging Technologies to Foster Global Citizenship: Strategies for Deepening Intercultural Competence in Education,” explores the innovative role of emerging educational technologies in advancing global citizenship and intercultural understanding.

Building upon recent advancements, this presentation delves into the use of cutting-edge tools—such as AI-driven language translation and corrective feedback systems, immersive virtual reality (VR) experiences, and adaptive learning platforms—to enhance the depth and quality of cross-cultural education. The speech highlights the potential of VR in creating interactive and context-rich learning environments that transcend geographical boundaries, providing students with authentic cultural experiences that were previously unattainable. Moreover, it examines the transformative role of AI-powered translation and feedback technologies in breaking down language barriers, fostering real-time communication, and refining intercultural dialogue.

Further, this discourse will explore the integration of data-driven adaptive learning platforms designed to tailor educational content to diverse cultural backgrounds, thereby supporting personalized learning pathways that enhance global competence. By synthesizing these technological innovations, the speech aims to offer educators, policymakers, and researchers actionable insights into designing educational frameworks that not only bridge cultural divides but also empower learners to become proactive global citizens in an increasingly interconnected world.

Attendees will leave with a renewed perspective on how to leverage these technologies to cultivate a globally minded and culturally competent generation, equipped to navigate and contribute meaningfully to the complexities of our global society.

Title: Promise and reality: using ICTs to bridge China' s rural–urban divide in education

Abstract: Rapid urbanization in China has worsened the educational disparity between rural and urban regions, which can lead to increased social stratification and injustice. Information and communications technologies (ICTs), with their potential to enable universal access and pedagogical reform, are considered a promising solution to bridge such disparity. To gain a deeper understanding of how ICTs can promote equity and quality in China’s education system, this study employed the extended case method to critically evaluate the longitudinal changes in four rural schools since the implementation of ICT initiatives in 2014. Our study revealed that ICTs acted as an external force that disrupted the status quo of rural education in terms of pedagogical and curricular norms, classroom structure and dynamics, perceived school and teacher identities, and induced positive changes such as increased academic performance, social and emotional development for left-behind children, and professional development for rural teachers. The study also offered theoretical insight into the socioeconomic factors hindering the sustainable development of ICT-supported rural education. Our research findings can contribute to the theory development in educational equity, educational quality, and social justice, and inform policy formulation to revamp rural education in China.

Title: On Foreign Language Smart Educationunder the Situation of Educational ntegration and Innovation

Abstract: The rapid development of internet and information technology strongly requires the integration and innovation of smart education and traditional education, which is also the inevitable trend of education and teaching reform. Smart education of a foreign language, has gradually become one of the concerns of scholars. The problems of foreign language smart education include knowledge barrier, data island, low utilization rate of smart classroom, disconnection between curriculum and smart foreign language teaching, lack of adaptive learning ability of students, and so on. Based on these problems, programs such as strengthening the construction of new liberal arts, opening the source achievements, sharing resources, setting personalized teaching, multi-interaction, and optimized model of smart foreign language teaching are put forward so as to better and more effectively carry out foreign language smart teaching.
